Blessy’s directorial ‘Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life)’ featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role is set to hit the big screens today, March 28. The film is an adaptation of Benyamin’s best-selling novel Aadujeevitham, which is based on true events. The film follows Najeeb, a man from Kerala who goes offshore, in hopes of a better life, but instead, gets forced into slavery in the Middle East. ‘Aadujeevitham’ is a passion project for Blessy, and he has spent nearly 16 years to make it. Blessy discussed the story of ‘Aadujeevitham’ in 2009, however, they could only get things started in 2018. The team shot ‘Aadujeevitham’ between 2018 and 2022. From being stranded in Jordan amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, to shooting amidst adverse weather conditions, the makers had to face unprecedented challenges. “The filming of The Goat Life (Aadujeevitham) commenced in 2018 and concluded in 2022. During this period, a dedicated crew spent approximately sixty-five days in the desert, enduring quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The filmmaking process itself became a test of endurance and resilience for the cast and crew, mirroring the themes of survival that run through ‘The Goat Life’,” the director said in a note. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who plays the lead role of Najeeb, underwent a drastic weight loss makeover to step into the shoes of the character. He shed 31 kilos, and the weight journey was so risky that by the last day of the shoot, Prithviraj Sukumaran had a dangerously low fat percentage and visceral fat levels.Read Less
